All my life, i’ve had to prove a lot to the world that despite me being “vertically challenged,” I can still get shit done. (And no, don’t worry, no napoleonic complex here) The most vivid example of this was in the sports arena. What I lacked in height, I had to make up for in speed, agility, intelligence, and strength. My handles in basketball have to be that much nicer; I ran hurdles in high school and despite my stride length being shorter, I had to be that much faster than everyone i was racing; in Turkeybowl (flag football) my technique and football knowledge had to be tight and precise to be in the right place at the right time. I can’t grow any taller, so I’ve spent many days running on the track, shooting 100’s of free throws, studying coverages of nfl teams, lifting in the weightroom, and staying motivated.

You’re never going to be perfect in every single aspect of your relationship with your significant other…but fuk it. Don’t dwell on what you can’t do for your boyfriend/girlfriend, but what you can do. You may not have all the money in the world, so make her a cake. You may not be able to play a song for them on your guitar, so make her a mix cd of songs that remind you of her. You may not be the most romantic guy in the world, so do research and ask all of her girl friends something that she’d appreciate. You may not be the funniest guy in the world and have the hardest time making her laugh….just don’t make her cry. Give her all that you can, and at the end of the day when there’s nothing else left to give, give her your time.
